Fabrique 1840 grant

Bourse Fabrique 1840

I am honoured to be a finalist for the Fabrique 1840 grant Fabrique 1840 Simons for two emerging Canadian artisans.

Here, I present the N135 lamp, which has been revisited through design. At the crossroads of graphic design, craft and design, this new version is a tribute to geometry.

This pattern is accompanied by a randomly printed checkerboard motif. Starting with very simple geometric shapes, I compose the pattern directly on the fabric, without any prior planning. Superimpositions and shifts generate moiré effects that vary according to the angle at which the checkerboard is printed. An infinite number of combinations are possible, in a constant search for balance between solids and voids.

This ultra graphic random pattern becomes even more accentuated once the lamp is folded thanks to new juxtaposition games. The lamp shows us different points of view on the pattern, more loaded or more light, depending on the angle from which we look at it.

The public is welcome to vote for two of its favorites among the 23 finalists until June 19.
